Scientist Training Programme (STP)
          in Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering

The Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department in Sheffield has for many years trained graduates to Clinical Scientist level.  Recent years has seen the intoduction of new 3 year training programmes under the Modernising Scientific Careers initiative and these have been adopted here.

In 2014 we expect to recruit three trainees, one will train in Medical Physics, one in Clinical Engineering and a third in Clinical Bioinformatics. Trainee's attract a salary and start at the bottom of the Band 6 Agenda for Change payscale.

The programme includes a combination of academic study and practical hospital based training.  The academic elements are delivered in a part-time MSc Healthcare Science course, in a series of block release sessions at the appropriate university. 

During the first 15 months a trainee will undertake placements within the hospital covering a range of disciplines.   Following the rotational placements the trainee will proceed to speciaise in one subject area.

STP Recruitment

The application process for the 2014 intake to the Scientist Training Programme  has now closed and the shortlisting process will shortly commence.  Interviews for those shortlisted will take place in March.   Further information is available from NHS Careers and the National School of Healthcare Science.  

The next opportunity to apply for the training scheme will be advertised in January 2015.
